Unlocking Hope in the Heart of Westminster: A beacon of community mental health support

“Hope in the Community Westminster, launching in February 2024, is not just a space; it’s a promise of support, collaboration, and community.”

In a world often bogged down by clinical vibes, Hope in the Community Westminster is like a breath of fresh air, shaking things up in the mental health support scene. It’s a joint venture between CNWL NHS Trust and the team here at Chasing the Stigma, and trust us, it’s going to redefine how we look at mental health care.

Building Bridges Through Good Vibes

From February 2024, this non-clinical haven will offer non-profit organisations a free space to host services, activities, and groups, revolving around the pillars of learning, social prescribing, and community support. The space is designed for groups and organisations to make short bookings (approx. 2-4 hours) with slots available on a rotating basis. The space is able to accommodate 30 seated attendees and will operate from February 2024 to May 2024, Monday to Saturday, with three available slots per day (morning, afternoon and evening).

Trust the Magic of Community Support

A sneak peek into the Hub of Hope’s data from January to July 2023 revealed something big — most people actively sought support from VCSE communities, showing the public trust in VCSE services and the comfort they offer. Drawing on the resources, expertise and contacts of the NHS and these services makes for a unique combo of both sectors and a rich soup of mental health support.

A Tapestry of Awesome Services

Run by VCSE partners, the space will be buzzing with drop-in sessions, training and development opportunities, lived experience/peer support hangouts, and activities for all-round well-being. Located in the heart of Westminster, in one of the Gordon Hospital’s non-clinical spaces, the community hub is purposefully designed to welcome people who may feel disconnected from traditional mental health support services or those seeking additional support.

Founder and CEO of Chasing the Stigma, Jake Mills, commented: “Hope in the Community has been a dream of mine for a long time. Seeing it come to life in Westminster with CNWL shows such dedication to the wellbeing of the community here. Together with CNWL, we want to reclaim this space as a positive, non-clinical, inclusive space for everyone in the community, and I have no doubt that the support available will make a real difference to people’s lives.”

So, get ready for Hope in the Community Westminster, where every step is unlocking hope in the hearts of those who need it the most.
